I'm curious if there is any kind of "record" for how long he can hold a note. Linnell holds the last syllable of this song (" woooooorm!") for a good ten seconds.longer in some live versions, I understand. OK, she is not a worm, but she does play drums! Aaaaaaaaaaaaah! Apollo 22:54, 11 August 2010 (UTC) My sister is a drummer Of course, I think what you meant was that TMBG was possibly making a Far Side reference, and that would be very plausible and very excellent. While Larson making a TMBG reference would be cool, I'm pretty sure he stopped writing new panels before the song was released, or even came into live rotation. TMBG are the only ones I know who have ever talked about a worm playing the drums, is there any known relationship? I saw a Far Side cartoon of a bird pulling a worm out of a hole and inside the hole was a drum set. Oddjob 19:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC) Gary Larson? I would say it's safe to assume he's a real worm, who exists in the fictional world of the song where worms are capable of talking and playing drums. Like many of Linnell's creations, I'm baffled by whether the subject is real or just "real." The lyrics claim, "I am an actual worm," but then the character proves he's not REALLY a worm by doing things like playing drums and twirling sticks.
